Papyrus as we all learned as fairly small children in school was
the first kind of paper (the word itself comes from papyrus).
Made from the split and hammered stems of a reed that grows on
the banks of the Nile, it still made in the traditional way for
tourist souvenirs.
If
you go to the Egyptian museum in Cairo, you will see papyrus
that are recognisably similar to these except that those are
2000 years old or more. So these get my vote as a good tourist
souvenir as being pretty close to what they are trying to be.
Computer technology means that they can be printed out in
durable inks on traditionally made papyrus in the ancient way.
the main thing you have to be aware of is not to buy too many -
how many frames and walls in your house are you really going to
cover?
