Pyramids - Egypt

Thumbnail pages:  Pyramids | Sphinx | Sharm el Sheikh | Tourist stuff

You can see Cairo in the background here of the second and third pyramids on the Giza plateau. the nearest pyramid - the second one, the pyramid of Kharfe, has a cap of cladding limestone smoothing out the shape. It is situated slightly higher than the other two pyramids and in photographs such as this looks larger than it really is. Like the third pyramid, it is not known whether the cladding ever covered the whole of the pyramid or not, fallen or prised-off blocks may well have been carried away for other purposes.
