You
can see Cairo in the background here of the second and third
pyramids on the Giza plateau. the nearest pyramid - the second
one, the pyramid of Kharfe, has a cap of cladding limestone smoothing out the shape.
It is situated slightly higher than the other two pyramids and
in photographs such as this looks larger than it really is. Like
the third pyramid, it is not known whether the cladding ever covered
the whole of the pyramid or not, fallen or prised-off blocks may
well have been carried away for other purposes.
