Most
hotels in Sharm el Sheikh have a jetty - often across a
coralline platform which drops to 5-10m initially before sloping
off into deeper water, this is what you see here.
This
is often the first introduction to snorkeling in the Red Sea.
If you are there, you need to stick your head under water with a
mask on. Even if you aren't instantly grabbed by the
diving / snorkelling bug, hopefully you'll appreciate and be
amazed by what is
there.
What
is down there? - One of the most condensed and complex ecosystems
on earth, this fluid and indistinct image taken from above the
surface cannot begin to show
what is below the surface.
In
the water is my son Niall (12 at the time) on one of his first
snorkelling outings. Within a couple of days, he was diving down
to 7m with confidence and reached 10m by the end of our week
there - in the process being hooked (for life) by the
underwater marine world.
